At HS2 Limited, becoming Disability Confident is very important to us. We have the opportunity to make travel more accessible for thousands of rail users and therefore embedding disability confidence across the programme is important to us. We are ensuring customer experience and accessibility are at the heart of our designs by engaging with our Passenger and Built Environment Accessibility Panel (BEAP) from early stages in the programme.
I’m involved with RIDI because of the talent that UK Plc is not currently making use of. The recruitment industry and employers can adopt good practice which will lead to more employment of disabled people. Finding and retaining employment can be life changing for people. That is why I’m involved with RIDI. I really enjoy seeing the positive benefits that improved access to employment has for individuals.
At the conference I’ll be talking about the importance of disability confidence, the changes employers and the recruitment industry can make so that access to employment is more inclusive. I will also be talking about how to remove barriers to employment and why it is so important for employers to make the most of all the talent available throughout the UK. I am looking forward to learning about what works at the conference. I don’t mind where or who it comes from. If the impact can be demonstrated then I’m all for it! I want to take away ideas that I can implement across HS2 Ltd and HS2 programme.
